Umar Faruq Hussain is a Senior Associate at Babalakin & Co., where he advises state-owned enterprises, multinational corporations, blue-chip companies, and private sector clients on complex commercial disputes, arbitration, regulatory matters, and corporate advisory engagements.
His practice encompasses commercial litigation, international and domestic arbitration, energy and infrastructure, banking and finance, insolvency and debt recovery, corporate governance, and real estate. He routinely represents clients in high-value and complex matters before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Court of Appeal, Federal and State High Courts, National Industrial Court and international arbitral tribunals.
Umar has advised on significant disputes arising from Nigeria’s energy sector, including matters involving production sharing contracts, power purchase agreements and shareholder disputes, as well as financial recovery and restructuring, constitutional and election-related litigation, and complex regulatory disputes. He is recognised for delivering commercially focused, strategic legal solutions to complex legal and business challenges.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Osun State University and is admitted to the Nigerian Bar. Umar is ranked by Chambers Global in recognition of his work in dispute resolution, technical excellence, strategic judgment, commercial vision and outstanding client service.
