The case of the Prosecution was closed on Wednesday February 15, 2023 following the testimony and cross-examination of  Dr. Williams Oluwaseun Olatunde, a medical doctor practising as a Consultant Pathologist at LASUTH, Ikeja.

The defendant’s counsel, Mr. Adetokunbo Odutola, said on Wednesday that his client will file a no-case submission to halt the charge.

This was announced by the defendant’s counsel, Mr. Adetokunbo Odutola after the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyo Onigbanjo (SAN), closed their case.

Olatunde narrated how the autopsy was carried out on the victim’s body, stating, “The findings from the external to internal showed that there were multiple defects mainly on the anterior chest wall and one defect from the left axillary fold.

On internal examination, there were multiple visceral or organ injuries and musculoskeletal injuries.” He further explained that the specific injuries included multiple rib fractures, injuries to the intercostal spaces, and both lungs.

Dr. Olatunde affirmed that the victim’s death was most likely caused by hemorrhagic shock and the destruction of the visceral and musculoskeletal tissues in her chest, and that the defect in her body was brought on by the largest piece of the bullet’s shrapnel.

He pointed out that the relative positions of each injury to one another might be used to calculate the trajectory of the bullet and that the severity of the wounds suggested that the bullet was likely fired at close range and with maximum force. He further mentioned that the deceased woman was not yet three months pregnant.

Defence lawyer Odutola questioned the pathologist on his ability to identify the shooter during the course of his cross-examination which he replied no, stating that all conclusions were based on findings discovered during the autopsy.
