Presidential candidate of the Nigerian Bar Association, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, has emphasized the need for intentional investment in young lawyers as the legal profession continues to evolve in Nigeria. He made this known ahead of his participation as a panelist at the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association Young Lawyers’ Forum Summit themed “Beyond the Bar: Harnessing Emerging Opportunities in Nigeria’s Evolving Legal Landscape,” describing the event as a critical platform for shaping the future of legal practice in the country.
Akangbe noted that the future of the profession depends on how well young lawyers are supported with mentorship, improved welfare, capacity development, and access to meaningful opportunities. He stressed that beyond survival, young practitioners must be prepared to thrive in emerging areas such as technology, policy, advocacy, dispute resolution, and innovation-driven sectors. He further expressed optimism about engaging with young lawyers at the summit, reaffirming his commitment to building a more inclusive, progressive, and forward-looking Bar.

I am honoured to be part of the NBA-YLF Summit 2026 as a Panelist on the theme, “Beyond the Bar: Harnessing Emerging Opportunities in Nigeria’s Evolving Legal Landscape.”
This conversation goes beyond legal practice. It is about the future of the Nigerian lawyer, especially our young lawyers who represent the strength, energy, and future of the Bar.
I strongly believe that young lawyers deserve more than promises. They deserve mentorship, improved welfare, capacity development, access to opportunities, and a Bar that truly works for them. The future of our profession depends on how intentionally we invest in the next generation today.
As the legal landscape continues to evolve, we must prepare young lawyers not just to survive, but to thrive beyond traditional boundaries. From technology and innovation to policy, advocacy, dispute resolution, and emerging sectors, the opportunities are limitless when leadership is purposeful.
