The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police, Yahaya Abubakar, as a Deputy Inspector General of Police. This decision was announced in a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Commission.
Prior to his new appointment, Abubakar served as the AIG in charge of Zone 14 Katsina. In his new role, he will represent the North East Geopolitical Zone in the Police Management Team, succeeding DIG Habu Sani, who recently retired as the DIG Force Intelligence Bureau.
In addition to Abubakar’s appointment, the PSC also sanctioned the promotion of 122 other senior police officers. This includes the elevation of ten Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General, fifteen Deputy Commissioners of Police to substantive Commissioners, and thirty-six Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners. Furthermore, sixty-one Chief Superintendents of Police were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police.
These promotions and appointments are part of the PSC’s ongoing efforts to enhance the leadership and operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Police Force, ensuring that it is well-equipped to meet the security needs of the country.
