I had the honour of joining distinguished colleagues at the NBA Abuja Branch (Unity Bar) Law Week 2026 as a Discussant on the theme “Safeguarding Nigeria’s Democratic Process” with a focus on “Driving Sustainable Economic Growth Through Smart Policies.”
I spoke from a place of deep conviction, a conviction that the future of the Nigerian Bar and our nation depends on strong institutions, credible democratic processes, courageous leadership, and smart policies that truly work for the people.
As lawyers, we occupy a strategic position in shaping governance, defending democracy, protecting the rule of law, and advancing reforms that will stimulate sustainable economic growth. Our profession must continue to stand boldly for justice, accountability, and responsible leadership.
The reception from members of the Unity Bar was truly overwhelming. The applause was loud, the response was genuine, and the message was received clearly. Beyond the applause, I felt the growing desire among lawyers for purposeful leadership, progressive ideas, and a Bar that will speak strongly for its members and for the nation.
I am grateful to the leadership and members of the NBA Abuja Branch for the warm reception, the engaging conversations, and the opportunity to share my thoughts on issues central to the future of our profession and our democracy.
Together, we will build a Bar that is respected, progressive, inclusive, and courageous enough to lead from the front.
