The Nigerian Bar Association has set up a committee responsible for sexual harassment and bullying cases amongst female lawyers.
This was made known by the General Secretary of the NBA, Mrs Joyce Oduah, FICMC at the 2022 Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum Conference held on Thursday, 31st March 2022 at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
She said that the committee would also be set up in Chambers to ensure that any case of sexual harassment would firstly be tackled within the Firm before taking it to the Committee on Sexual Harassment and Bullying.
She also noted that since the inception of the committee, they have gotten cases of sexual harassment and bullying which would be handled thoroughly with a view to seeing that justice is done.
Mrs Joyce also added that female lawyers should speak up whenever they’re bullied or made any advance to, by their male colleagues.
She noted that the world is evolving now and females must be able to speak out unlike in the olden days when they couldn’t talk about sexual harassment.
The General Secretary applauded the NBA National President, Mr Olumide Apata for his commitment in ensuring that women are served the same quota as men and to ratify the Call for committe on Sexual Harassment and Bullying among female lawyers throughout the country.
The conference had in attendance Taraba State First Lady, Mrs Anna Ishaku; Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele and other distinguished guests.
The theme of the 2022 Conference is “The Invisible Hand of Gender Bias: Championing Collective Change” and the Conference was held in commemoration of the International Women’s Day.
