The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has condemned the abduction of Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court, describing it as a direct attack on the judiciary, the administration of justice and the rule of law.
The association called for the judge’s immediate and unconditional release, urging security agencies to deploy every available resource to secure his freedom.
In a statement issued by its President, Afam Osigwe (SAN), the NBA said the abduction of the serving judicial officer from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State was a dangerous assault on Nigeria’s justice system.
Osigwe said attacks on judicial officers undermine public confidence in the rule of law and threaten the independence of the judiciary.
He urged the relevant security agencies to act swiftly to rescue Justice Bunza unharmed and bring those responsible for the abduction to justice.
The NBA also called on the government to strengthen security around judicial officers and public institutions to prevent similar incidents and safeguard the administration of justice.

“This brazen attack on a serving judicial officer is not only an assault on the person of Justice Bunza but a direct attack on the Nigerian judiciary, the administration of justice, and the rule of law,” the statement read.
The association expressed concern over what it described as the growing boldness of criminal elements targeting institutions and officials responsible for the administration of justice, warning that such attacks could erode public confidence in the nation’s justice system.
It called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Security Adviser and other relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure Justice Bunza is rescued safely and without delay.
The NBA also urged the Kebbi State Government to collaborate closely with federal security agencies to secure the judge’s release and ensure that those responsible for the abduction are arrested and prosecuted.
The association stressed the need for improved security arrangements for judicial officers across the country, noting that judges must be adequately protected to enable them discharge their constitutional responsibilities without fear or intimidation.
It further extended its thoughts and prayers to Justice Bunza, his family, colleagues on the Bench and the Kebbi State judiciary, expressing hope for his safe and immediate release.
