Benue State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence in Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, in recognition of his administration’s outstanding performance and transformative achievements within three years in office.
The resolution was reached during a plenary presided over by Speaker Berger Emberga, following a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Gwer East State Constituency, Elias Terumbur , and unanimously supported by members of the House.
Moving the motion, Terumbur recalled that Governor Alia assumed office on May 29, 2023 at a time Benue State was confronted with enormous governance and developmental challenges, including unpaid salaries, pensions and gratuities, as well as deteriorating public infrastructure.
He said within three years, the governor had restored confidence in governance through prompt and regular payment of workers’ salaries, pensions and gratuities, while implementing people-oriented policies and projects that had positively impacted the lives of citizens.
The House acknowledged the administration’s investments in infrastructure, education, health care and public institutions.
It cited the establishment of Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Ihugh, as well as renovation of Benue State Civil Service Secretariat, Benue State House of Assembly Complex, State Judiciary Headquarters and Ministry of Justice.
In the area of industrialisation, the lawmakers hailed the governor’s commitment to economic revitalisation through Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), which has facilitated the establishment of Food Basket Brewery, Fruitcon Juice Company, Bensono Concentrate Factory, Bread Factory and Pure Water Factory, among other investments.
The Assembly noted the government’s ongoing efforts to revive Taraku Mills, describing the initiative as a strategic intervention capable of creating employment opportunities, expanding markets for local farmers and enhancing the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
After thorough deliberations and contributions by members, the House unanimously resolved to commend Governor Alia for his visionary leadership, commitment to good governance and dedication to the development of Benue State.
It called on political leaders, traditional rulers and well-meaning citizens to continue supporting the governor in his efforts to advance peace, unity and sustainable development across the state.
Speaker Emberga commended Governor Alia’s remarkable achievements across key sectors, including infrastructure, agriculture, education, health care, commerce and industrial development, among others.
The Speaker described the Governor’s performance as unprecedented and reflective of purposeful leadership focused on delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the people of Benue State.
Consequently, the House unanimously adopted the motion and passed a vote of confidence in Governor Alia, reaffirming its support for his administration and expressing confidence in its ability to sustain the ongoing transformation of the state.
