About the Role

We are seeking a competent and driven Litigation Lawyer to join our legal team.

The ideal candidate must have solid practical experience in litigation, be confident in legal research and drafting, and demonstrate the ability to independently handle assigned matters while working effectively within a team.

This position is particularly suited to a lawyer who has strong courtroom advocacy, and litigation management experience.

Key Responsibilities

– Conduct legal research and provide well-reasoned legal opinions.
– Draft pleadings, motions, affidavits, written addresses, legal opinions, notices, applications, and other court processes.
– Prepare cases for trial, including reviewing evidence, identifying issues and developing litigation strategies.
– Attend court proceedings and represent clients before relevant courts and tribunals.
– Conduct case management and maintain accurate records of assigned matters.
– Prepare briefs, case summaries, hearing notes, and other litigation documents.
– Liaise professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court officials, and other relevant stakeholders.
– Monitor court dates, deadlines, filings, and other procedural requirements.
– Assist with pre-action matters, negotiations, settlements, and alternative dispute resolution where appropriate.
– Keep up to date with relevant legislation, case law, court rules, and legal developments.
– Perform other legal and administrative duties reasonably assigned by the supervising partner or management.

Requirements

– LL.B from a recognised university.
– Called to the Nigerian Bar.
– 2–4 years post-call experience.
– Demonstrable experience in litigation and courtroom practice.
– Strong knowledge of Nigerian civil and criminal procedure.
– Experience drafting and reviewing court processes and other legal documents.
– Strong legal research, analytical, writing, and advocacy skills.
– Ability to conduct cases and appear in court.
– Good understanding of court procedures and filing processes.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
– Strong organisational and time management abilities.
– Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple matters simultaneously.
– Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common legal research tools.
– Professional appearance, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.

Experience Expected

The successful candidate should have practical litigation experience, rather than purely administrative or academic legal experience.

Experience in the following areas will be an advantage:

– Conducting matters at the Magistrates’ Courts and High Courts.
– Drafting and filing originating processes and other court processes.
– Preparing for and attending hearings.
– Legal research and case law analysis.
– Client consultations and taking witness statements.
– Trial preparation and case strategy.
– Debt recovery and commercial disputes.
– Contractual and property-related disputes.
– Alternative dispute resolution and settlement negotiations.

*Location Requirement*
