The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested 516 illegal immigrants in Kaduna State in preparation of the general elections in 2023.
They were arrested by immigration officers in Zaria during a mop-up operation.
The illegal immigrants from Chad, Niger, and Togo were arrested as a result of actionable intelligence, according to Kaduna State’s state immigration controller Liman Sani Kila.
He also disclosed that the Service had earlier this year recovered more than one thousand Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from illegal immigrants during a sting operation in various parts of the Kaduna metropolis.
According to the NIS Controller, they will be properly profiled after which they will be repatriated to their counties of origin.
He assured that the Nigerian Immigration Service is working closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (NIS) to ensure no foreigner takes part in the forthcoming elections.
