“He’s the best”,Ebun Sofunde, SAN Endorses Yemi Akangbe, SAN for NBA President

Senior Advocate of Nigeria and respected legal practitioner, Ebun Olusegun Sofunde, SAN, has formally endorsed Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, FCIArb, for the office of President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing him as the candidate best suited to restore the image and leadership of the Association.

In a letter dated July 8, 2026, Sofunde announced his support for Akangbe, his former partner at Sofunde, Osakwe, Ogundipe & Belgore, ahead of the forthcoming NBA national elections. He noted that the decision was taken after careful consideration of the qualities required to lead the Association at a time when, according to him, the reputation of the NBA and its members has declined significantly.

Explaining the basis for his endorsement, Sofunde identified integrity, commitment to the legal profession, and proven leadership ability as the key qualities that distinguish Akangbe. He recalled that Akangbe joined the law firm as an associate in 2005 and, through consistent professionalism and outstanding character, earned the confidence of the firm’s partners before eventually being invited to become an equity partner.

Sofunde also praised Akangbe’s record of service to the legal profession, particularly his tenure as Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Lagos Branch, which he described as commendable and reflective of his dedication to the Bar.

Calling on members of the legal profession to support Akangbe’s candidacy, the senior advocate urged his colleagues to vote for him in the forthcoming NBA presidential election, expressing confidence that his leadership would serve the best interests of the Association and its members.
