The federal government has made an appeal to organized labor, urging them to reconsider their plans for a mass protest scheduled for today and Wednesday. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stressed that the government is actively working to address the high cost and shortage of food items and other economic challenges.
Idris noted that 80% of the 15-point requests agreed upon with labor have already been fulfilled. He encouraged the Nigerian Labour Congress to follow the example of other affiliates who have withdrawn from the protest, citing the timing as inappropriate.
In contrast, the Civil Society Front, comprising eminent civil society leaders and groups, has issued a statement fully endorsing the nationwide mass protest on hardship slated for Tuesday, February 27th, and Wednesday, February 28th, 2024.
