The Nigerian Senate has confirmed nominees for the Nigerian Law Reform Commission (NLRC) following President Bola Tinubu’s June 2025 nominations.
Dakas Dakas was nominated as chairman, and Uchenna Okolocha and Fatima Alkali as commissioners. However, Fatima Alkali, who was nominated to represent the north-east region, declined the appointment and communicated her rejection to the presidency.
Adeniyi Adegbonmire, chairman of the Senate committee on judiciary, human rights, and legal matters, reported that the committee found Dakas Dakas, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from the north-central region, and Uchenna Okolocha from the south-south region, to be fit and proper persons” for their positions based on their qualifications, experience, competence, and integrity.
The committee recommended replacing Alkali with another female nominee from the north-east to maintain gender fairness.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio put the confirmation to a voice vote, and the nominees were confirmed, except for Alkali who had already declined the appointment
