A senior police officer and two other people have been detained after they shot and killed a female lawyer on Christmas day in Lagos.
In unclear circumstances, a police officer in the Ajah area of Lagos State shot and murdered the lawyer identified as Bolanle Raheem.
According to reports, the lawyer, her sister, and four kids were driving away from a restaurant in their car at around 11 am when a police officer tried to pull them over but instead fired at the driver.
Sources claim that the cop shot the woman as she attempted to perform a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge and then fled the area while being followed by a group of police officers.
The woman was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, described it as unfortunate and avoidable. He added that the affected officer has been arrested and is in custody while investigations go on.
He wrote:
“Unfortunate and avoidable incident that was. The ASP that shot and two others with him have since been taken into custody. They are to be moved to the SCID for further investigation.”
