The Senate is poised to lift the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP – Bauchi Central) after three months, according to recent developments.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio made this statement while addressing reporters upon his return from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland.
Akpabio stated that the Senate will soon reevaluate the three-month suspension imposed on Ningi following his assertion that the 2024 budget contained an alleged padding of N3.7 trillion.
In a letter penned by his legal representative, Femi Falana SAN, Ningi had issued Akpabio a seven-day ultimatum to rescind the suspension or face legal recourse.
Although Akpabio admitted to not yet having seen the letter, he assured the press that it is receiving appropriate attention.
He emphasized that the matter will be resolved amicably, likening it to a family affair, and expressed optimism that Ningi would resume his duties earlier than anticipated.
Akpabio said: “It is a parliamentary decision. I have not seen the letter yet. But Senator Ningi is one of us. I mean what is suspension?
“I believe that in a few days he will join us. So, there is no problem. It would be resolved amicably. The Senate is a family.”
