Precious Aigbonoga, the President of the Igueben Area Customary Court, who was abducted on her way to work on Monday, has been freed.

According to reports, troops and police officers invaded the forest where she was being held on Thursday in order to conduct the rescue operation.

She, however, was shot, and the operation claimed the life of a policeman.

Aigbonoga was receiving treated for gunshot wounds at an unidentified hospital, according to a family source.

The source said, “She has reunited with her family. She was shot by the kidnappers.”

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, in his words confirmed the rescue of the court president, but noted that the agency lost an officer in the operation.

The Nigerian Bar Association, Benin branch, commended security agencies for the operation and expressed sadness that a policeman lost his life in the incident.
