The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has criticized Governor Dauda Lawal for his repeated public comments on the state’s security challenges, labeling them “unfortunate and uncalled for.” In a statement issued on Thursday in Gusau, the state APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, expressed dismay over the governor’s claims of knowing the movements and locations of bandit leaders in the state.
Idris described it as “very unfortunate” that Governor Lawal, as the Chief Security Officer of Zamfara, has not shared critical intelligence with security agencies combating banditry. “The APC as a party, we don’t know why the governor continues to overlook the issue of insecurity, giving bandits the chance to continue killing and abducting innocent citizens,” Idris stated.
The criticism follows Governor Lawal’s recent assertion that he could end banditry in Zamfara within two months if granted full control of security agencies. Lawal claimed he could pinpoint bandits’ locations using his mobile phone. In response, the APC accused the governor of “exposing how his hands have been soiled in supporting and harbouring the bandits terrorising innocent citizens.”
The party further questioned why Lawal has not collaborated with the Federal Government to address the banditry crisis, which has led to widespread killings, abductions, and displacement in Zamfara. The APC urged the governor to focus on actionable partnerships with security forces rather than making public statements that fail to curb the ongoing violence.
