At the NBA Yenagoa Young Lawyers Summit 2026, I had the honour of serving as a panelist on a theme that is both timely and deeply personal to me: “Prosperity Blueprint for Every Young Lawyer.”
The conversation about the future of our profession must begin with the young lawyer. Their welfare, growth, and ability to thrive are not optional, they are central to the strength, relevance, and integrity of the Bar.
In my remarks, I spoke from a place of tested conviction. As former Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch, I went beyond conversations about welfare and pursued deliberate, practical solutions. From targeted welfare initiatives to capacity-building programmes and the creation of a more enabling environment, my approach has always been clear: leadership must be felt, not just heard.
Young lawyers need more than encouragement. They need structure, opportunity, and support systems that empower them to grow and prosper with dignity. When the right environment exists, excellence is not an exception, it becomes the standard.
I remain firmly committed to a Bar where every young lawyer can see, and confidently pursue, a clear path to growth, stability, and success. This is not an aspiration, it is a duty I hold with utmost seriousness.
The future of our profession is bright, but it will only reach its full promise if we are intentional about the choices we make and the leadership we embrace.
Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN
Past Chairman, NBA Lagos Branch
