“Young Lawyers Must Move Beyond Survival to Leadership and Innovation” — Lateef Akangbe, SAN

Presidential aspirant of the Nigerian Bar Association, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, has reaffirmed the need for intentional investment in young lawyers, stressing that the future of the legal profession depends on empowering the next generation with opportunities, mentorship, visibility, and an enabling environment to thrive. Akangbe made the remarks while attending a programme organised by the Nigerian Bar Association Young Lawyers Forum Abeokuta Branch themed “Thriving Beyond Survival: Young Lawyers at the Forefront of Change, Innovation and Impact.”

Speaking at the event, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria described the theme as timely and reflective of the growing determination among young lawyers to move beyond mere survival toward leadership, innovation, and meaningful impact within the profession. He commended the resilience, brilliance, and passion of young practitioners, noting that their commitment to excellence continues to inspire confidence in the future of the Bar. Akangbe also applauded the leadership and members of the NBA-YLF Abeokuta Branch for creating platforms that encourage growth, innovation, and constructive engagement for young lawyers across the country.

BUILDING A FUTURE WHERE YOUNG LAWYERS LEAD, INNOVATE AND IMPACT THE PROFESSION

It was truly a pleasure and honour to be with the vibrant young lawyers of the NBA YLF Abeokuta Branch at their inspiring programme themed “Thriving Beyond Survival: Young Lawyers at the Forefront of Change, Innovation and Impact.”

The theme could not have come at a better time. Across our profession, young lawyers are not merely seeking to survive; they are determined to lead, innovate, create impact, and redefine the future of legal practice in Nigeria. Their energy, brilliance, resilience, and passion for excellence give me immense confidence in the future of our Bar.

I remain deeply committed to a profession where young lawyers are empowered with opportunities, mentorship, visibility, welfare, and the right environment to truly thrive. The future of the Nigerian Bar must intentionally invest in its next generation of leaders, advocates, innovators, and change makers.

I sincerely thank the Chairman and members of the NBA YLF Abeokuta Branch for the warm reception, thoughtful engagement, and commendable efforts in creating platforms that inspire growth, innovation, and meaningful conversations for young lawyers.

Being with young lawyers is always refreshing and rewarding because they represent the strength, hope, and future of our profession. I look forward to continuing these important engagements across the country as we collectively build a stronger, more progressive, and more inclusive Bar for all.
