X Cracks Down on AI-generated War Content, Warns Against Creation of Misleading Footage

X has announced it will suspend creators from its monetization program if they post AI-generated videos depicting armed conflict without clearly disclosing that the content was made using artificial intelligence.

The policy was outlined Tuesday by X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, who said the platform would impose a 90-day suspension from its Creator Revenue Sharing Program on users who fail to label synthetic war-related videos as AI-generated. Repeat violations after the suspension period ends will result in permanent removal from the monetization scheme.

“During times of war, it is critical that people have access to authentic information on the ground. With today’s AI technologies, it is trivial to create content that can mislead people,” Bier wrote in a post on X. “Starting now, users who post AI-generated videos of an armed conflict—without adding a disclosure that it was made with AI—will be suspended from Creator Revenue Sharing for 90 days.”

The company said enforcement will rely on a combination of automated tools designed to detect generative AI content and its crowdsourced fact-checking system, Community Notes. Posts identified as undisclosed synthetic media depicting armed conflict could trigger penalties tied specifically to monetization eligibility.

X’s Creator Revenue Sharing Program allows eligible users to earn income from advertising revenue generated by engagement on their posts. The initiative, introduced to incentivize high-performing content and compete with other creator-driven platforms, has become a key feature of X’s monetization strategy under owner Elon Musk.
