Some women groups in Bayelsa have condemned the involvement of three teenage boys in the failed ritual killing of a 13-year-old girl for ritual purposes in the Abadigbene community of Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
DAILY POST gathered that detectives attached to the Bayelsa State Police Command had on Monday arrested three teenage boys over the alleged attempt to hypnotize and use a teenage girl for ritual.
The three suspects are Emomotimi Magbisa, 15; Perebi Aweke,15; and Eke Prince, 15, all natives of Abadigbene Community. One is purportedly the son of the paramount ruler of the community.
The groups, Gender Response Initiative Team (GRITS), the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Bayelsa chapter, expressed outrage at the incident, condemning the rising cases of juvenile involvement in crime in the state.
Chairman, Gender Response initiative Team, Bayelsa State, Sheila Ogbise Esq, condemned the act allegedly committed by these teenagers, “We are not oblivious of the rising cases of juveniles in conflict with the law in the state and the urgent need for parents to pay more attention to the company their children keep. We are saddened by this incident and call on the police to expedite action on their investigation”
Also speaking, Chairperson, FIDA, Bayelsa State, Debra Pamosoo Esq, vehemently condemned the act saying, “This is the second ritual matter that has been brought to our knowledge as the first one is already in court.”
In her comment, President, Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Bayelsa State, Dr Gbanaibolou Oweifa, said the development calls for serious concern.
“It means little children are getting more and more involved in criminality and it’s alarming, We call on mothers as nurturers of these children to rise up and stop this ugly trend,” she said.
