The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed the reason behind the arrest of crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, alias Bobrisky on Thursday aboard a KLM flight at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State.
The controversial Bobrisky was said to have attempted to flee the country for London amid allegations of bribery against him when officials of the agency and the Immigration Services stopped the flight from taking off and promptly arrested him.
On Friday morning, the anti-graft commission said in a statement that he had been flown to Abuja where he would be interrogated.
“We have arrested him in Lagos today and will be flown to Abuja today. He accused us of bribery and corruption; we invited him severally, but he did not show up. He who alleges must be ready to prove. Those allegations are too weighty to allow slide,” the EFCC stated.
“Also, remember that he has also refused to show up at the National Assembly on the matter. We are left with no other choice than to pick him up so that he can substantiate his claims. And that is what we have done,” it added.
As a follow up to the matter, spokesman for the Commission, Dele Oyewale who confirmed the transfer of Bobrisky to Abuja, said he was arrested because he refused to honour an invitation sent to him.
“We arrested him last night and we took him to Abuja because our team investigators are in Abuja,” Oyewale told journalists at the agency’s office.”
“He was trying to run away from mentioning those he said collected bribe from him. We have sent him invitation but he refused to honour our invitation and he was trying to leave the country.”
“This was why we arrested him. We want him to come and mention the names of the official involved in the bribery but he had not shown up.”
