George Etomi, Principal Partner at George Etomi & Partners, while speaking at The Phenomenal Woman Conference 2.0, advocated that society should invest in women.
“I come from a polygamous home. My dad’s colleagues concentrated more on training the male children and basically just sent the female children into early marriage. My dad would have none of that. He insisted and gave opportunities to my sisters to go to school the way he did for us.”
Etomi emphasised that most women have done well for themselves and are more successful in life.
“I’m proud to say that our sisters are our intellectual match and have been so complementary in sustaining and projecting the family name.”
Etomi urged society to keep supporting women, stating that women are not just born to bear children, and support men.
“When you train a woman, you actually train a community. Women are not just born to bear children and support men. We should support women to thrive and a lot will change in society.”
He concluded by advising women not to give up, and to see every obstacle as a stepping stone to success.
“I support my wife as a lawyer; I push her to do more. I want her to be projected because I know how phenomenal she is. So, I encourage every woman out there to keep on thriving and also seek career counselling and see every obstacle as a stepping stone,” he added.
