WhatsApp has announced a fresh set of updates aimed at improving how users interact in group chats, rolling out features such as member tags, text stickers, and enhanced event reminders.
The new member tags feature, which was announced on Wednesday, allows users to assign themselves descriptive names within specific group chats, offering added context about who they are or the role they play. For instance, a user can appear as “Anna’s Dad” in a family group while adopting “Goalkeeper” in a sports team chat.
WhatsApp is also expanding creative expression with text stickers, enabling users to turn any word into a sticker simply by typing it into Sticker Search. These custom text stickers can be saved directly to personal sticker packs without needing to send them in a conversation.
In addition, event reminders now allow group admins and members to set custom notifications when creating events in group chats, helping ensure invitees don’t miss important dates or activities.
The latest additions build on WhatsApp’s broader push to enhance group communication. Over recent updates, the platform has introduced features such as HD media sharing, file transfers of up to 2GB, screen sharing, voice chats, and other collaboration tools designed to make group conversations more functional and engaging.
