At the recent Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, delivered a strong call for a renewed focus on lawyers’ welfare and professional empowerment. In his address, Akangbe emphasized the need for an NBA that goes beyond rhetoric to provide tangible support for its members.

He proposed practical measures such as free bar stamps, complimentary access to electronic legal research platforms like LawPavilion, and regular free training opportunities for lawyers. Stressing that welfare should not be seen as a privilege but as a fundamental right, Akangbe urged the Association to embrace policies that would elevate the practice of law and enhance the dignity of its members.
