The Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NIRA) has assured Lawyers of its readiness to collaborate with the Nigerian Bar Association to facilitate digital adoption by Lawyers and train lawyers to understand technology and digitize their law practice.
Speaking at the 2022 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, the Vice President of NIRA, Toba Obaniyi, stated that NIRA is encouraging adoption of digital technology by businesses and is working towards partnering with the Corporate Affairs Commission to give free domain and free website to businesses for one year.
Obaniyi further noted that NIRA was set up as the custodian of the “dot ng” domain, the country code top level domain name for Nigeria, and has about 70 accredited registrars.
The session on “Technology and the Law: Creating a Digital NBA” had among its panelists, the Chairman and Co-Chair of the Digital NBA Committee.
Rotimi Ogunyemi, the Co-Chair of the Digital NBA Committee, stated that the Digital NBA Project aims at “repositioning the NBA as a digital first entity”. He identified the various phases for the implementation of the digital NBA such as digital identity, digital platform, digital infrastructure and ecosystem.
It was noted that in carrying out the implementation of the Digital NBA project, there should be compliance with data protection regulations.
As technology continues to play a pivotal role in diverse facets of human life and endeavour, it has also become an essential tool in the practice of law.
