Unmet Demands: Magistrates in Cross River Embark on Indefinite Strike

Magistrates in Cross River State have embarked on an indefinite strike following the state government’s alleged refusal to meet their eight points demands.

All Magistrates in all courts and government offices downed tools on Monday 9th February 2026.

In a statement issued in Calabar, the Magistrates Association of Nigeria, MAN, in Cross River State, said they have made several appeals orally and documented to the state government before the eventual decision to embark on strike.

The statement said, “Sequel to the failure of the Government of Cross River State to address our demands despite several written and oral appeals, the last of which was made vide a letter dated 2nd February 2026, we the Magistrates Association of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter are hereby embarking on an indefinite strike from Monday, 9th February 2026 until our demands are met.”

The statement which was signed by the Chairman, Godwin O. Onah, and Secretary, Solomon O. Abuo, warned all magistrates across the state to ensure strict compliance with this directive by abstaining from performing all official duties, including court sittings till further notice.
