Two Bag One Year Jail Term for Currency Counterfeiting in Gombe

The Gombe Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, February 10, 2022 secured the conviction of Abubarka Hassan and Aliu Mohammed on two separate one count charges bordering on cheating before Justice H.H. Kereng of Gombe State High Court, Gombe.

The defendants were accused of using counterfeit currencies to make payments, an offence that is punishable under Sections 95 and 322of the Penal Code,

The pleaded guilty to their respective charges upon arraignment.

Consequently, Justice Kereng convicted and sentenced them to one year imprisonment each. He however gave the defendants an option of fine of N40,000 (Forty Thousand Naira) and N50,000(Fifty Thousand Naira) respectively.

The duo were earlier arrested between November 30th and December 17th, 2021 by operatives of the Department of State Services, Adamawa State Command while attempting to transfer counterfeit currencies via different Point of Sale outlets in Adamawa. The case was then transferred to the Commission for further investigation.
