President Donald Trump has ordered mass retrenchment of staff at Voice of America (VOA) and other government-funded media organisations in the counttry.
A Senior official in the US Agency for Global Media, Kari Lake, said in a statement on Friday that the notices were a “long-overdue effort to dismantle a bloated, unaccountable bureaucracy.”
The sack notices were sent to 639 workers on Friday, after previous offers of voluntary departures and dismissals of contractors.
President Trump in March issued an order that froze VOA, the first since the establishment of the organisation in 1942.
