In a riveting outing today during the ongoing NBA Garki Branch Law Week, Tobenna Erojikwe, Partner at The LawCrest LLP and Chairman of the NBA-ICLE took the stage to give a few remarks.

Tobenna Erojikwe, a tireless advocate for equitable lawyer compensation, played a pivotal role in crafting the Remuneration Committee Report and the NBA-NEC’s endorsed Remuneration Whitepaper, which formed the foundation of the recently enacted Legal Practitioners Remuneration Order, 2023.

In his remarks, he underscored the Remuneration Order’s significance, stating, “Fair lawyer compensation isn’t just an issue of justice; it’s the bedrock of quality legal services.” While lauding the Remuneration Order’s passage, Erojikwe stressed the need for ongoing assessment, saying, “We must remain vigilant, ensuring that minimum remuneration levels remain fair and competitive.”

“Collaboration among legal practitioners is vital for our collective growth,” he asserted. “We must create an environment where lawyers can exchange knowledge and experiences to better serve clients and society”, Tobenna Erojikwe said.

Furthermore, Erojikwe urged lawyers to harness branding for distinction in a competitive legal arena. “Your reputation and values define your brand. Cultivating a strong brand can unlock opportunities and bolster client trust,” he advised.

Speaking at the sidelines of the event, Tobenna Erojikwe said that “in my view, the focus of Bar Associations like ours should be working towards an improved administration of the justice system; speaking up for the people and holding the government accountable; empowering its members through capacity building and other means; creating the right framework for the better welfare of its members; and championing drives for better remuneration and earning capacity within the profession. I am glad to see that some of these issues are being discussed this law week.”

Tobenna Erojikwe’s participation in the NBA Garki Branch Law Week left an indelible mark, offering insightful perspectives on critical facets of the legal profession. His call for equitable compensation, collaboration, and strategic branding serves as a compelling reminder of the legal profession’s multifaceted nature and the imperative of addressing these issues for the profession’s enduring prosperity.
