Tinubu Increases Ambassadorial Nominees to 65, Seeks Senate Confirmation

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded to the Senate the request for the confirmation of 65 ambassadorial nominees.

This group includes 34 career ambassadors and 31 non-career ambassadors and high commissioners.

The letter conveying the request was read on the Senate floor today by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

Among the non-career nominees are prominent political figures such as former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu; former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode; ex-Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu; and former presidential aide Reno Omokri.

Other notable names include Senator Ita Enang, former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Chioma Ohakim, Bello Danbazau, retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete, and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim.

Both the career and non-career lists have been referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs. The committee is tasked with conducting screenings and reporting back to the Senate within one week.

This new list brings the total number of ambassadorial candidates currently before the Senate to 68, with three Kayode Are, Aminu Dalhatu, and Ayodele Oke already screened by the committee.
