President Bola Tinubu has asked the senate to confirm the appointment of Mainasara Illo as executive secretary and chief executive officer of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Centre (NADC).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Tinubu’s request during plenary on Tuesday.
In the letter, Tinubu said the request was made in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Act.
“Pursuant to section 15 of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Act 2025, I am pleased to present for confirmation by the senate the appointment of Mr. Mainasara Illo as executive secretary and chief executive officer of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre (NADC) for an initial term of four years,” the letter reads.
“While i hope that the senate will consider and confirm the nominees in its usual expeditious manner, please accept Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest regards.”
Akpabio subsequently referred the request to the relevant committees.
“This is referred to the committee on narcotics and also the committee on sports to jointly screen and refer to the senate as soon as practicable,” he said.
In a separate letter, Tinubu asked the senate to confirm the appointment of two nominees as commissioners in the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
The nominees are Amina Gamawa as commissioner representing Bauchi state and Abudullahi Mukhtar as commissioner representing Kaduna state.
Tinubu said the request was made in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.
“In accordance with the provisions of Section 1541 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, I am pleased to forward for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of two underlisted nominees as commissioners in the Revenue, Mobilization, Allocation, and Fuscal Commission,” he said.
The president said he expects the senate to confirm the nominees promptly.
“While I hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominees in its expeditious manner, please accept Distinguished senators, the assurances of my highest consideration,” he said.
Akpabio referred the request to the senate committee on national planning and economic affairs.
“This is referred to the Committee of National Planning and Economic Affairs to report to the Senate within the next one week,” he added.
