TikToker remanded over alleged defamation of Karota officials

The Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has arraigned a TikTok user, Rabi’u Sani Zage, before a magistrate’s court over alleged defamation of its officials in videos circulated on social media.

The defendant was charged with eight counts bordering on recording and circulating videos of KAROTA officials while on duty, accompanied by comments allegedly intended to tarnish their image and expose them to public ridicule.

According to the agency, the suspect had been arrested several times over the alleged conduct and had previously signed an undertaking at the Farm Centre Police Division to desist from it.

However, he allegedly continued the act, prompting the agency to institute legal proceedings against him.

The defendant pleaded guilty to all eight counts before Magistrate Court No. 7, Nomansland, presided over by Magistrate Halima Wali.

The court ordered the accused to be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the case until November 2, 2026, for judgment.

It also reserved its ruling on the defendant’s bail application moved by his counsel.
