Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, made it clear on Monday that his vision for a new Nigeria remains unwavering, despite the Supreme Court’s ruling on October 26, 2023.
He addressed his supporters in Abuja about two weeks after the Supreme Court confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s electoral victory on February 25, 2023.
While expressing his disagreement with the Supreme Court’s decision, Obi acknowledged that the legal battle over the previous election had concluded. The former governor of Anambra State, speaking to his supporters known as ‘Obidients,’ emphasized that the pursuit of a better Nigeria is an ongoing journey, not merely an event.
Although Peter Obi, a 62-year-old politician, did not explicitly declare his intentions regarding the 2027 presidential race, he conveyed that his commitment to a improved Nigeria remains undiminished, suggesting that he may continue to play a role in shaping the country’s future.
Obi said he admired “the energy and dedication of Nigerian youths and the Obidient movement”.
“I want to reassure them that this is not the end of our journey, but rather the beginning.
“Nigerians heard you, the world heard you, and we will not forget. We will persevere and persist till we attain our target, which is the new Nigeria. A destination is not the same as an event”, Peter Obi stated.
