The Lawyers Chess Initiative Ltd/Gte (“TLCI”), a pioneering organization dedicated to fostering the growth of chess among Nigerian lawyers, is proud to announce the appointment of Chief Anthony Idigbe, SAN, Ph.D. and Dr Babatunde Ajibade, SAN, FCIArb., as its Pioneer Patrons.
Chief Anthony Idigbe, SAN, Ph.D. is a Senior Partner at PUNUKA Attorneys and Solicitors, a prominent full-service law firm in Nigeria. With over four decades of professional practice experience, Chief Idigbe has amassed extensive expertise in various legal practice areas, including Disputes Resolution, Insolvency, Business Restructuring, Arbitration, Capital Markets and Telecommunications. He holds the distinction of being the Founder and inaugural Chairman of the Capital Market Solicitors Association (CMSA) from 2001 to 2006 and currently serves as a Trustee of the Association.
Additionally, Chief Idigbe served as President of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN) from 2011 to 2013. Chief Anthony Idigbe, SAN, Ph.D. is an esteemed member of the boards of several companies, including listed entities, and nonprofit organizations. His vast experience and expertise make him a valuable asset in any role he undertakes.
Dr Babatunde Ajibade, SAN, FCIArb., is the managing partner of S.P.A. Ajibade & Co, a leading corporate and commercial law firm in Nigeria. He is a disputes resolution specialist and has vast expertise in various aspects of commercial litigation and international commercial arbitration.
He has acted as counsel in both ad hoc and institutional arbitration proceedings and also sits as an arbitrator. He is the Vice-Chair of the International Bar Association’s Section on Public and Professional Interest, a Vice-President of the International Chamber of Commerce (“ICC”) Arbitration Commission’s Steering Committee, a member of the ICC’s Africa Commission, a Director of ICC Nigeria, a Director of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce International Arbitration Centre (LACIAC), a member of the Lagos Court of Arbitration (LCA) and a member of the African Arbitration Association. He is the Chairman of the Judiciary Relations Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association.
As Patrons, the duo of Chief Anthony Idigbe, SAN, Ph.D. and Dr Babatunde Ajibade, SAN, FCIArb. will bring their extensive experience to bear by providing guidance, support and advocacy for the Initiative’s activities and programmes which include organizing chess tournaments, providing chess education, and fostering networking opportunities within the legal community.
