Former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, FCIArb(UK), has extended warm felicitations to the NBA Ondo Branch as it marks its 2025 Annual Law Week. In a goodwill message, he commended the branch leadership, the Law Week Planning Committee, and its members for convening an event focused on deepening professional discourse and reflection.
Akangbe described the theme of the Law Week, “Dying Embers of Professional Ethics: Blunted Sword of the Gatekeepers”, as both sobering and thought-provoking, stressing that it underscores the urgent need to restore ethical values in the legal profession. He urged participants to embrace honest introspection, collective responsibility, and purposeful reform, expressing hope that the event would serve as a catalyst for a renewed commitment to truth, justice, and professional integrity.

I bring warm felicitations to the branch Executive Committee, the Law Week Planning Committee and learned members of the NBA Ondo Branch on the auspicious occasion of your 2025 Law Week.
The theme *“Dying Embers of Professional Ethics: Blunted Sword of the Gatekeepers”* is as sobering as it is thought-provoking. It speaks to a profession at a critical point, where the fading glow of ethical values calls for urgent rekindling.
Ours is a noble calling that demands fidelity to truth, courage in advocacy, and an unyielding commitment to justice. The decline of professional ethics must never be accepted as the norm. Rather, it must be addressed through honest introspection, collective responsibility, and purposeful reform.
I commend the NBA Ondo Branch for its intellectual courage and urge all participants to engage with open minds and renewed hearts.
May this Law Week mark a reawakening.
