Nigeria’s Defence Minister Retired Major-General Bashir Magashi has stated that the Ministry of Defence is attempting to verify the source of the security alert threat issued by the United States.
Magashi gave the update when he appeared before the House of Representatives committee on Army to defend the 2023 budget proposal for the ministry.
He added that the the threat is something that the ministry would not take lightly.
“The ministry is trying to verify the source of the threat as well as countries that are also interested in the remarks made by the U.S. government”, Magashi said.
The defence minister pledged to take the current security threat seriously while revealing that Abuja’s security is being beefed up alongside other neighbouring states.
“We believe that there is no smoke without fire and in that regard, we were able to subject the details to our intelligence organisations and they have provided answers to those areas which the government demands”, he added.
According to him, the government has realised the need to be extra vigilant to halt the activities of bandits and the source of the threat so it can be neutralised.
