The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has announced the extension of the deadline for the filing of individual annual income tax returns.
Speaking in a statement issued on Tuesday, FCT-IRS Executive Chairman, Michael Ango, disclosed that the deadline has been extended from March 30, 2026, to April 30, 2026.
According to Ango, while the statutory deadline remains March 31 every year, the extension is to give taxpayers additional time to file accurate returns and improve overall compliance in the Federal Capital Territory.
He added that voluntary tax compliance remains a civic duty and a key contribution to national development, urging individuals to prioritise the timely filing of their annual income tax returns.
Speakingfurther, Ango emphasised that electronic filing via the FCT-IRS tax portal remains the approved channel for submitting annual returns.
He noted that the agency continues to strengthen its digital tax administration system.
“Individuals are therefore encouraged to file their returns promptly through the designated FCT-IRS tax portal at www.taxporta.fctirs.gov.ng,” he stated.
Ango further advised taxpayers to ensure that personal details, including national identification number (NIN), phone numbers and addresses, are captured correctly during onboarding on the portal to avoid processing delays.
