Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for visiting legal luminary, Aare Afe Babalola to plead on behalf of human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, who was arrested and detained for alleged cybercrime and defamation.
Obi had, on Monday, traveled to Ekiti State where he met with Babalola where he reportedly visited the founder of Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), and pleaded with him to consider withdrawing his case against Farotimi who has been remanded at the Ekiti prison.
The former Anambra State governor also visited Farotimi at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre located along Afao Road, Ado-Ekiti, where he is being remanded.
However, Sowore who is the convener of #RevolutionNow movement, has criticised Obi for taking the steps to mediate in the issue.
In a post on his X handle, Sowore said Obi going to beg Babalola, was a colossal injustice to the fight against judicial corruption.
Sowore argued that Obi’s actions were a setback to efforts aimed at eliminating judicial corruption in Nigeria, likening it to a betrayal of justice.
“I condemn those who went to “beg” Chief Afe Babalola today over the unjust detention and persecution of @DeleFarotimi; the delegation led by @PeterObi did colossal injustice to the struggle to drain the swamp of judicial criminality in our country,” he wrote.
“Obi’s action is like forcing Rosa Parks to return to back of the bus of racial injustice during the civil rights era in the US! The struggle continues! #RevolutionNow #FreeDeleFarotimiNow.”
