A Bill to regulate marriage expenses in the state has been passed by the Sokoto State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
The House Committee on Religious Affairs had previously been tasked with reviewing the bill, which was sponsored by Alhaji Abubakar Shehu (APC-Yabo) and Faruk Balle (PDP-Gudu).
The committee’s report was submitted in plenary by Shehu, the committee’s chairman, and it was overwhelmingly approved and made into law.
The Bill aims to limit excessive spending on naming, circumcision, marriage, and other regional customs throughout the state.
Shehu claimed that while presenting the report, the committee met with relevant parties whose helpful suggestions were incorporated into the Bill.
The Bill was passed by all lawmakers after discussion in a plenary session presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Abubakar Magaji.
