Seven Docked for Alleged Membership of Secret Society in Oyo

Police on Thursday arraigned seven persons at the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for alleged membership of a secret society.

The defendants are – Bashit Adigun (30), Tunde Adekunle (35), Ramadan Abisoye (25), Samson Adelakun (33), Wasiu Habeeb (29), Timileyin Fadairo (28), and Promise Adegoke (28).

The defendants were charged with conspiracy, membership of an unlawful society, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Owolabi told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 31 at the Gbagi area of Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendants unlawfully belonged to a secret society called “Alora confraternity.”

The prosecutor said the defendants were arrested while holding a meeting at the T2G Hotel, Gbagi area of Ibadan.

He said the offences contravened Sections 516, 62, 64(a) and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Gladys Oladele granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case till July 29 for hearing
