Senator Natasha Refuses to Substantiate Akpabio Harassment Claims Outside Court

Suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has insisted that only a court of law can compel her to provide evidence for her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, dismissing demands from Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Olisa Agbakoba to retract her claims.

Agbakoba, representing Akpabio, had issued a second letter on April 22, 2025, following an unanswered request on April 14, urging Natasha to withdraw her allegations, which he described as unsubstantiated. Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Agbakoba highlighted inconsistencies in Natasha’s claims, noting that she allegedly praised Akpabio on social media a day after the reported harassment on December 8, 2023.

In response, Natasha denied receiving Agbakoba’s letters, asserting they were never delivered via email, courier, or in person. She accused Akpabio’s legal team of orchestrating a “coordinated media campaign” against her and criticized their selective invocation of the subjudice rule to stifle a Senate inquiry while publicly commenting on the matter.

Reaffirming her February 28 complaint, Natasha vowed to pursue legal redress in Nigerian and international courts. In a statement, she said, “The assessment of evidence belongs to the courts alone. The demand for evidence in this manner indicates a broader misconception of what constitutes sexual harassment under global protocols.” She added that further details would be provided only through court-directed disclosure, warning against attempts to undermine the legal process.
