Senate Reconstitutes Standing Committees, Announces New Leadership

The Senate Selection Committee has reshuffled several standing committees in the Red Chamber

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced this at Tuesday’s plenary in Abuja.

Akpabio is also the Chairman of the Senate Selection Committee.

Among the changes, the Committee on National Security and Intelligence will now be chaired by Senator Yahaya Abdullahi of Kebbi State. Prior to this appointment, Abdullahi headed the Committee on National Planning.

The Committee on Livestock and Animal Husbandry has also been reconstituted, with Senator Shehu Buba of Bauchi State named chairman. His new role follows his removal last week as chair of the National Security and Intelligence Committee.

In a related adjustment, Senator Mustafa Musa from Yobe State has been appointed chairman of the Committee on National Planning, succeeding Abdullahi.

Additionally, the Committee on Air Force will now be led by the Senate Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu of Enugu State, who assumes the position of acting chairman. Ngwu previously served as deputy chairman of the committee, which was chaired by Senator Godiya Akwashiki, currently indisposed.

The reconstitution reflects ongoing adjustments within the Senate to ensure continuity in committee leadership and legislative oversight.
