Senate Calls for Removal of CAC Registrar-General Over Repeated Snub of Lawmakers

The Senate has urged the dismissal of the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Husaini Magaji, over his consistent failure to respond to summons issued by the upper chamber.

The decision followed a motion sponsored by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu during a session of the Senate Committee on Finance, where members of the President’s economic team were in attendance.

Tension reportedly marked the beginning of the meeting as lawmakers, during the roll call of heads of agencies, voiced frustration over the absence of the CAC Registrar-General.

He had been scheduled to brief the committee and provide details on the commission’s operations.

An irate Senator Uzor Kalu subsequently put forward a motion seeking the immediate removal of the CAC chief, accusing him of repeatedly ignoring invitations from the finance panel.

“Since I came to the Senate, he has always given excuses that he is in the Villa.”

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, highlighted lingering concerns regarding discrepancies in the reconciliation of the commission’s revenue.

He stressed that the Registrar-General had on several occasions failed to appear before the committee to clarify the issues.

In his contribution, Senator Adams Oshiomhole recommended that the Senate intensify its response by suspending consideration of the CAC’s 2026 budget.

Following deliberations, the Senate adopted the motion calling on the President to relieve the Registrar-General of his duties.
