Reps to Synchronise Budget Process with National Planning Objectives

The House of Representatives is set to organize a national workshop to align the federal budgeting process with Nigeria’s National Planning and Economic Development blueprint.

The Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) who was speaking yesterday in Ogun against the backdrop of the country’s budgeting system and 2027 governorship in the state, emphasized the need for the nation’s budget process to “perfectly align” with national planning goals to foster sustainable development.

He stated that the upcoming workshop is designed to address existing imperfections in the budgeting system.

The lawmaker, who represents the Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency of Ogun State, explained that Nigeria’s economy has improved tremendously.

He attributed the upward – looking economy and rising investor confidence to the bold reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and stressed the need to sustain this positive trajectory to fast-track economic growth.

The lawmaker who has also expressed interest in running for the 2027 governorship election in the state, noted that while consultations with leaders and stakeholders are part of the political process, it would be inappropriate to suggest that anyone is backing him for the race.

“My decision to join the governorship race is based on personal conviction and commitment to the development of the state rather than pressure or endorsement from any political leader.

He warned against any attempt to create the impression that the governorship contest had already been decided in favour of a particular individual, stressing that democracy requires open competition.

“Of course, no one can make himself the governor of a state, particularly a state like Ogun. You need to talk to leaders. You need to talk to so many people. I have done countless meet-and-greet engagements because that is what the process requires.

He further for a level playing ground for all contenders in the race and the due process in line with party mechanism and laid down rules so as for the best to emerge.

He noted that anyone who emerged through the mechanism will surely be supported by others .

“It is all about discussions, and I can have as many of them as possible, but that still has nothing to do with being pushed. One of the things that some of us will try to resist is a situation where it will be assumed that the field has been colonized or taken over by one person and nobody is there to challenge that person.

According to him,” his political journey and past efforts in building political movements show clearly that he has always been driven by personal conviction and belief in the cause he pursued.

The lawmaker added that aspiring to lead a state like Ogun requires extensive consultations with political leaders and stakeholders across the state, noting that such engagements should not be misconstrued as evidence of external influence.
