The House of Representatives on Wednesday took action by summoning the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, regarding the prolonged delay in the release of National Identity Cards spanning from 2012 to the present. The decision came after a motion was put forward by Muhammed Shehu, a lawmaker from Bauchi State, during the plenary session in Abuja.
Additionally, the parliament summoned the Director-General of the National Identity Card Management Commission (NIMC), Mr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote. Shehu emphasized that despite the availability of resources for swift production and electoral transparency, Nigerians have faced persistent obstacles in updating their information within NIMC’s database.
The lawmakers urged the Committees on Population and Anti-Corruption to report their findings back to the House within four weeks for further legislative action.
