Reps Call For More Funding For The Information Ministry

The House of Representatives Committee on Information and National Orientation has criticized the ₦8.7 billion allocated to the Ministry of Information for 2025, rejecting the ₦1.2 billion capital component as grossly inadequate.

Committee Chairman, Hon . Fatoba Olusola, noted that the ministry’s allocation is lower than the ₦8.2 billion received in 2024, despite the national budget increasing from ₦28.7 trillion to ₦49.7 trillion. He described it as unacceptable for an agency responsible for disseminating vital information to receive such insufficient funding.

committee member commended the Minister of Information for his patriotism, while another criticized the budget framework, describing it as a hindrance to national development and emphasizing the need to protect Nigeria’s image.

They also highlighted the minister’s dedication and called for an urgent review of the budget to strengthen the ministry’s capacity.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, presented the ₦8.9 billion proposal and outlined the ministry’s role in providing timely, accurate information to rebuild public trust in the government.

He assured lawmakers of the ministry’s commitment to transparency and sought their support for a budget increase.
