The House of Representatives has unanimously agreed to reduce their salaries by 50% in response to the widespread economic hardship in the country.
The decision was made during Thursday’s plenary session, following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Ibrahim Isiaka from Ogun state.
The motion appealed for peaceful protests and engagement with the government to address the issues.
Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu proposed the amendment, suggesting a six-month salary reduction, initially stating that lawmakers earn N500,000 monthly, but was corrected by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who confirmed that their monthly salary is actually N600,000.
