The leader of the Enugu State caucus in the House of Representatives and Member representing Nkanu East/West Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji has defended the Enugu State Government in its contract dispute with Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited over the construction of 22 smart school buildings.
Nnaji accused the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Olasijibomi Ogundele, of allegedly defrauding the state of N5.7 billion—50 percent of the contract’s total value—without delivering on the project.
The lawmaker explained that the N11.45 billion contract was awarded on July 2, 2024, with a six-month completion deadline. However, after receiving half of the payment upfront, Ogundele allegedly failed to meet his obligations.
Describing the situation as “highly irresponsible,” Nnaji urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to recover the funds and ensure compensation for the state.
He further alleged that the transaction bore signs of premeditated fraud, citing irregularities in the bank guarantee and payment processes.
He stressed that the money must be recovered and accountability ensured, particularly since the project was meant to provide learning facilities ahead of schools’ resumption this September.
Nnaji reaffirmed his commitment to transparency in governance, insisting that public funds must be safeguarded to benefit the people of Enugu State.
