Rep Member Denies $1.7m Bribery Allegations, Vows to fight corruption

On Wednesday, the House Committee on Downstream Petroleum chairman, Representative Ikenga Ugochinyere, angrily refuted claims that he used $1.7 million to bribe House leadership to get his post.

He called the allegations in a statement “false, nonsensical, and childish” attempts to deflect criticism away from the widespread wrongdoing in the oil business.

Supporting the Speaker’s decision to dissolve the joint committee looking into issues in the oil industry, Ugochinyere said he trusted the Speaker’s judgment.

He reaffirmed his commitment to reform and openness, promising to fight for responsibility in the oil sector.

To preserve stability in the House, the legislator commended the Speaker and Deputy Speaker for their inclusive leadership style.

As a “smear campaign” by dishonest people, he rejected the claims.

Ugochinyere reaffirmed his focus on fighting for good governance, undeterred by the attacks and allegations against him and the House leadership, warning that those behind the allegations will face the wrath of the law, including other smear campaigns.

“The allegation is a belated, nonsensical, childish, and unprofessional fiction work aimed at creating division in the House,” Ugochinyere said.

“We will not dignify the cheap attempt to distract and divert attention from the House investigation on corruption in the oil industry. I remain focused in my fight for good governance”, he added.
